Full disclosure, not that you would expect anything less, Claire contacted us to see if I would read/review but as always, I said I would only publish my review if I enjoyed it.
I believe I couldn't have chosen a better time to read this book! Set on an undisclosed Greek island, I enjoyed it while lounging on my sunbed during my holiday in Rhodes 😊
The story revolves around Grace, a widow who, three years after the loss of her husband Phil, realizes that life still has much to offer. Having been a teacher her entire life, she seizes the chance to teach English to Greek students at a language school, knowing she can't let this opportunity slip away.
Once she settles in, Grace encounters the 'irritating' Will Lancing. While I didn't share Grace's initial feelings about him, she certainly did, and we all understand that the journey to true love is rarely straightforward.
Still got it, is a 'gentle romance,' and I loved the descriptive nature of Claire's writing… there were moments when I could almost smell the baklava.
I would have loved a complete epilogue for their love story; perhaps it's just me, but I enjoy the reassurance that when the story concludes and the curtain closes, Will and Grace are in a good place.
I adored that Grace and Will were not young anymore, representing the 50-60 something demographic of today. Yes, we can have flings or discover love if we choose to. We can opt out of the mundane and embark on adventures if we desire. It was a wonderfully positive affirmation of our generation, and I wholeheartedly support it.
