The Assassins Duet – Ella Sheridan (Assassin’s Mark (book 1) and Assassin’s Prey (book 2)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow! What an exhilarating ride that was! As the title implies, there’s a significant amount of  violence in this one (I mean, it’s not like an assassin is going to complete the task with a bouquet of flowers, right?) The story follows Abby and Levi. If Abby thought her father was a dominant, controlling presence in her life, his decision to arrange a marriage for her without her consent, was the last straw.

While out for a night at a club with friends, she meets the very hot Levi. A phone call from her father unsettles her, and when the chance to escape her father presents itself in the form of a night with Levi, she accepts without hesitation.

Until she awakens the next day to discover that she was actually Levi’s ‘mark’ and that he has now kidnapped her. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

However, not everything is as it appears; just because Levi is an assassin doesn’t automatically make him a villain. Right? My favourite aspect of a dark romance novel is the ‘let’s overlook all the warning signs’ mentality! If this were to happen to me, I’d be like the cartoon cat that flees from dogs and crashes straight through a brick wall!

Levi was fully aware of his actions (in every sense of the term!) and targeting Abby was simple, but he never anticipated that it would be a night that would forever leave a scar on his heart with her name.

This was quite a fast-paced read, and I thoroughly enjoyed both books. I listened on Audible, and no, it had NOTHING to do with the male perspective being narrated by one of my favourite narrators. Book 1 presents their story from Abby’s perspective, while book 2 is from Levi’s. My preferred reading style will always be dual perspectives by chapter, but I genuinely enjoyed this format as well.

Big thumbs up from me!
